Europe on Ice!

Tuesday, January 6th, 2009

Schaatsen op natuurijs, fotoAfter years of relatively mild winters in Western Europe the cold has finally kicked in, covering lakes and canals with a thick layer of ice. Thousands of Europeans, mainly the Dutch, take the opportunity to enjoy ice skating these days.

Upon request we added Ice Skating trips as a new activity at EveryTrail, and quickly dozens of Ice Skating GPS tracks are being uploaded.

If you are near frozen lakes or canals: Enjoy the ice! If you are not, check out some cool trips to get a taste what the Dutch are up to these days, for example: Schaatsen op de Oostvaardersplassen, Schaatsen op het Naardermeer, Skate-A-Round on Ice Waterland (all in the Netherlands) and Iceskating at høvik (Norway).

Know of any other activity that you’d like to see featured in the EveryTrail blog? Please get in touch with us!

New Homepage!

Sunday, July 20th, 2008

A part of our upgrade to EveryTrail 3.0 we launched a brand new homepage last week.

EveryTrail
Our main goal with this redesign was to make the site more approachable i.e. expose some of EveryTrail Member’s greatest content, while making the vast amounts of great geotagged photos (now over over 80,000!) and global trips (now over 13,000 public trips in over 100 countries!) even easier to find.

So far reactions have been extremely positive. Thanks so much!

We are still working on further improvements to the site. Please keep your feedback coming in the EveryTrail forums!

Trip pages upgraded

Friday, July 11th, 2008

Early this week we launched EveryTrail 3.0. As promised we will be adding incremental improvements over the next couple of weeks. The first is here now.

Yesterday we gave the View Trip pages a face lift. Here’s what’s new:

Large photos are now shown on-page, and it is much easier to browse through all photos within a trip. Just click the arrows alongside the large photo. The map will show where each photo was taken. You can also play the trip as a slide show, by clicking the green “Play” button (green arrow). Alternatively you can quickly and easily move through the thumbnails at the bottom of the page. Click a thumbnail to show the large image, and show its position on the map. All this can be done without leaving the trip page.

New View Trip Page

Trip stats are shown next to map, when you click the “stats” link above the map (stats view is the default for trips without photos). Currently we show elevation and speed charts. When you mouseover a chart, the corresponding location on the map is shown. Stats can also be played by clicking the green play button below the charts.

New Stats View Page

We are still tweaking and further improving these new pages. We are excited by this new launch, as we think it’s a big improvement and brings us another step closer to our goal to become the single best way to share trip experiences with your family, friends and the world.

Please let us know in the forums if you have any suggestions.

New release… EveryTrail 3.0 is here

Monday, July 7th, 2008

EveryTrail just got better… again!

We released a new version this evening with a couple of improvements:

  • Improved layout of Find Trips pages. The page is now more intuitive for first time users, because the links that allow drilling down on trip selections by activities and/or locations were moved to the left of the page
  • We added 2 new ways to sort trips on the Find Trips pages : By “Recent Popularity” (the new default sort order) and by Trip Date. The other ways to sort trips (”All-Time Topularity” and “Trip Creation Date“) are still in place
  • You can now select and deselect activities on the World Map
  • Wysiwig text boxes to make it easier to add descriptions and tips to trips.
  • We added “geonames” and waypoint names to trip detail pages

We are gearing up for a very active summer here at EveryTrail. Expect more improvements from us soon!

Adding Google Earth 3D View… inside your browser

Friday, May 30th, 2008

We just integrated the brand new Google Earth API. Now you can view your trips in 3D without having to start the Google Earth desktop application. This is another big step that enables our vision to seamlessly remember and share your trips!

To view your GPS tracks and geotagged photos in 3D, use the drop down on the top right of any trip map and select “Google Earth 3D”.

Please let us know in the forums if you have any suggestion.
