Last Friday EveryTrail reached another big milestone: More than 100,000 public trips are shared at EveryTrail!

The image shows the daily number of new trips. There are no signs of slowing down. Quite the contrary… lately the number of new trips has grown faster than ever, and we had several days with more than 1,000 new trips.

We at EveryTrail are celebrating this milestone, but at the same time we keep focusing on making the site better and better, while dealing with some growing pains.

On to the next milestone!

We’ve been working hard at keeping up with all this growth in traffic and content. We made important upgrades to the server infrastructure and migrated to a new scalable framework to prepare for the next wave of growth.

Along with the growth came some growing pains. Since this morning GPS file uploads are not working. While we are resolving this please use the following temporary fix:

The EveryTrail Blackberry app makes it very easy to capture your GPS tracks and photos using your GPS-enabled Blackberry Curve, and then upload your trips directly to EveryTrail.

Please note that the app is optimized for the Blackberry Curve. It does function on other GPS-enabled BlackBerry models such Bold and Pearl, but the difference in screen size causes layout issues on other devices. The Blackberry Storm is not supported at this point.

Upon request we added Ice Skating trips as a new activity at EveryTrail, and quickly dozens of Ice Skating GPS tracks are being uploaded.

If you are near frozen lakes or canals: Enjoy the ice! If you are not, check out some cool trips to get a taste what the Dutch are up to these days, for example: Schaatsen op de Oostvaardersplassen, Schaatsen op het Naardermeer, Skate-A-Round on Ice Waterland (all in the Netherlands) and Iceskating at høvik (Norway).

Trails is an iTunes’ staff favorite and now supports direct export of tracks into EveryTrail. In addition you can import any track from EveryTrail easily and view the route on the map directly on your iPhone. Trails will let you tailor the behavior of the GPS recorder through easy-to-use presets for hiking, jogging, bike rides and drives.

Starting today EveryTrail trips will be available as a Layer in Google Earth. This means that your EveryTrail trips will automatically appear in Google Earth, so you and tens of millions of Google Earth users can view your trips in 3D!
